A large explosion hit a mosque in Kabul during the evening prayer on Wednesday, said witnesses and police, with many who were feared to die or were injured. The police said there were many victims but did not say how much. A Taliban intelligence official told Reuters that as many as 35 people might be injured or killed, and victims could increase further. Al Jazeera quoted an unknown official for giving a total number of deaths 20.
Witnesses told Reuters that a strong explosion was heard in the North Kabul environment, destroying the windows in the nearest buildings. The ambulance rushed to the place. “An explosion occurred in the mosque … The explosion had victims, but the number was unclear,” Kabul Police spokesman Khalid Zadran told Reuters.
Taliban intelligence officials, spoke on anonymous condition, said the explosion occurred at a mosque among worshipers in the Khair Khana area in Kabul. The mosque priest is among those who are killed and the calculation can still rise, the source added. The intelligence team is at the location of the explosion and investigation is ongoing.Other officials in the Taliban government did not reply to many requests to confirm the number of victims.
