Israel released a wave of air strikes in Gaza on Friday, killing at least 10 people, including a senior militant, and injured dozens, according to Palestinian officials. Israel said they were targeting the Islamic jihad militant group in responding to “threats that would soon occur” after the arrest of other senior militants in the West Bank which was occupied earlier this week.
The targeted murder from senior Palestinian militants seems to tend to pull rocket shots from Gaza. The ruler of Hamas Israel and Gaza has been in war of four wars and several small battles over the past 15 years with a surprising cost for 2 million Palestinian residents in the region. An explosion was heard in the city of Gaza, where smoke flowed out of the seventh floor of a tall building on Friday afternoon. The video released by the military showed an attack blowing three guard towers with alleged militants in it.
“The Israeli government will not allow terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip to determine the agenda in the area adjacent to the Gaza Strip and threaten Israeli citizens,” Prime Minister Yair Lapid said in a statement. “Anyone who tries to hurt Israel must know: we will find you.”
Violence is an initial test for Mr. Lapid, who took the role of the Prime Minister of the guard before the election in November where he hoped to maintain that position. He has experience in diplomacy, after serving as a Foreign Minister in the government that came out, but his credentials were thin.
Hamas also faced a dilemma in deciding whether to join a new battle – almost a year after the last war caused widespread destruction. There is almost no reconstruction since then, and the isolated coastal region has fallen into poverty, with unemployment floating around 50%.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health said a 5 -year -old girl and a 23 -year -old woman, including those who were killed and that 55 others were injured. That does not distinguish between civilians and militants. The Israeli military said the initial estimate was that around 15 fighters were killed.
Islamic jihad said Taiseer al-Jabari, his commander for northern Gaza, including those killed. He has replaced other militants who were killed in air strikes in 2019. Hundreds of marching in a funeral procession for him and others were killed, with many mourners raising the Palestinian flag and Islamic jihad banner when they called for revenge.
Some hundred people gathered outside the morgue at the Gaza City Shifa Main Hospital. Some enter to identify loved ones, only appear in tears. One shouted: “May God take a revenge for the eyes,” referring to the Palestinian informant in collaboration with Israel.
An Israeli military spokesman said that launched the attack in response to “threats that will soon occur” from two militant teams armed with anti-tank missiles. The spokesman, who gave direction to reporters on anonymous condition, said Al-Jabari was deliberately targeted and responsible for “many attacks” on Israel.
Defense Minister Benny Gantz Meanwhile approved an order to call 25,000 reserve troops if needed. And the military announced the “special situation” in front of the house, with the school closed and the boundaries placed in other activities in the community within 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the border.
Israel has closed the streets around Gaza earlier this week and sent reinforcements to the border while preparing for revenge attacks after the arrest of Bassam al-Saadi, a leader of Islamic jihad, in a military attack on the western bank occupied. A teenage member of the group was killed in shooting between Israeli troops and Palestinian militants.
Israel and Hamas fought four wars since the militant group won power in the coastal strip of the Palestinian troops in 2007. The latest was in May 2021, and the tension jumped earlier this year after the wave of attacks in Israel, almost every of military operations on the West Bank and tension on the holy site Jerusalem Flashpoint.
