London: A doctor from India on Wednesday was sentenced to four years in prison by a Scottish court after being found guilty by a jury for serious sexual violence against a woman more than three years ago.
Manesh Gill, 39, was sentenced to the High Court in Edinburgh last month and was sentenced to the same court for what Scottish police described as “terrible behavior” this week. The court heard how the Married General Practitioner (GP) disguised as “Mike” in the Tinder Online Dating Application and arranged to meet victims at a hotel in Stirling, where the attack occurred in December 2018.
“Gill’s belief and punishment send a clear message to anyone who is found guilty of sexual violations, you will be taken to court,” said Inspective Detective Forbes Wilson of the Scottish Police Public Protection Unit.”Gill now has to face the consequences for his terrible behavior. The victim has shown extraordinary courage to move forward and tell her story and I want to thank you for your help during our investigation. I hope that today’s results will give him several forms of closure, “Wilson said.
“We remain committed to overcoming sexual harassment, we have special trained officers and work with partners to provide support to the victims. I will encourage anyone to report sexual harassment in any form, because all reports will be thoroughly investigated,” ” he added.
During the evidence at the trial earlier this year, the woman – said to be a student nurse – described how her body was “closed” because she experienced sexual harassment.Gill, the father of three children based in Edinburgh, claims that sex is consensual. The jury punished him for committing sex crimes when the victim was unable to give or withstand approval. He has also been added to the list of sex violators to monitor his behavior.
