CONVID-19 : President Buhari sets up Task Force

The President of Nigeria,  Muhammadu Buhari has set up a Presidential Task Force for the Control of Coronavirus (COVID-19) as the virus continue to spread.

As the virus continues to spread across the globe, Nigeria has confirmed two cases of the virus.

The index case was reported on February 28 in an Italian businessman who came into the country on business.
While the second case was reported on March 8, in one of the people who had contact with the index case.

This Committee which is set up as the number of confirmed case increase to two is to be headed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha.

This is contained in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity.

He said the panel was established due to the current global outbreak of the virus and its potential of causing significant disruption to health services in the country and also impacting negatively on the economy.

"This action is in preparation for the unlikely but probable major outbreak of the disease in the country which will require a multi-sectoral inter-governmental approach as advised by the World Health Organisation (WHO) similar to that adopted for the HIV epidemic in the last two decades," he said.

According to the statement, the group is expected to deliver within a maximum period of six months.
